In the bachelor's programme Engineering Management, you’ll integrate technology, business, and innovation. The curriculum aligns with the qualification framework of the VWI and systematically covers mathematics, natural sciences, technology (STEM), business …administration, and interdisciplinary skills. You’ll gain solid knowledge in mathematics, physics, design, and electrical engineering. Through hands-on projects—such as “Mess-, Steuer- und Regelungstechnik” or “Konstruktion mit CAD”—you’ll put your learning into action. Elective modules allow you to tailor your focus, from “Smart Factory” and embedded systems to robotics, sustainability management, automotive, or production.
Elective areas: In elective areas A, B, and C, you select two elective modules each. Elective area D: decide upfront between an internship or modules from this elective area. The internship concludes with a practical reflection. If you opt for modules, you must complete all modules in this area. Mixing an internship and elective area D is not permitted.

Looking for flexible studies with a hands-on focus? No problem: at IU International University of Applied Sciences, you can deepen your knowledge in an integrated internship (30 ECTS points) related to your field. Alternatively, you can expand your expertise through practical modules (30 ECTS points). Decide in your first semester which approach suits you and your goals. If you already have work experience or gain some during your studies, this could be recognised under certain conditions, saving you time and money.
Practice project: Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen
At the start, you’ll find a company to collaborate with during your project. In coordination with the company, you’ll select a specific task, such as in sustainability, smart home, or autonomous driving. You’ll apply concepts, methods, and tools learned during your studies to address your task and document your findings in a written report.
Project: Hackathon
In this module, you’ll use key methods to find practical solutions for relevant problems and present your findings to an audience. Choose a topic from areas like electromobility, robotics, data analytics, process automation, or digital business models. You’ll develop your solution using tools such as hardware (e.g. prototyping boards like Arduino) or software (e.g. technology-specific development platforms like Matlab). At the end, you’ll present your results in a project showcase.

As an expert in Engineering Management, you’ll actively shape the digital and sustainable industry, taking on key cross-sector roles. After graduation, you could work as…

As an Internet of Things Specialist, you plan and oversee IoT projects—from conception to implementation and maintenance. You develop innovative IoT solutions and implement them both technically and organisationally, for example in production, logistics, or smart buildings.
As a Digital Transformation Specialist, you lead digitalisation projects and implement process automation. You design digital strategies, identify new opportunities, and support companies in enhancing efficiency, customer experience, and innovation.
As a Robotics Engineer, you design and develop automation solutions for manufacturing. You plan robotic applications, simulate and optimise processes, and implement software solutions. Your responsibilities also include setting up and managing test environments.

We make it possible: At IU International University of Applied Sciences you can start your desired study programme - without NC, state-recognised, with or without a general A-level!
With vocational or high school diploma With a general university entrance qualification (high school diploma) or an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (vocational diploma: academic and practical part), you can enter our Bachelor's study programme* directly.
Graduates from Waldorf schools and vocational colleges in Baden-Württemberg must have their entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences confirmed by the relevant authority in order to be able to study in another federal state. This also applies if you want to study in a federal state other than Thuringia. Additional achievements may be required. Our student advisory team will answer any questions about this.
* For applicants with international school diplomas (e.g. IB-Diploma) or degrees earned abroad, the institution conducts an equivalence test (according to Anabin).
You can also study at IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) without a high school diploma. To do so, you simply need:
A master craftsman's certificate or
Advanced professional training (e.g. as an IHK business administrator) or
At least two years of recognized vocational training in Germany, followed by at least 3 years of professional experience (full-time)*: Depending on the focus of your training and professional activity and what you want to study, you can start directly with a trial phase or prove your aptness in other ways.
*If you have completed your vocational training and professional experience within Europe, but outside of Germany, the university will carry out an equivalency assessment. EU qualifications can be accepted as equivalent if your vocational qualification is comparable to a German vocational qualification at level DQR 4.
If you choose the English-language study option, we require proof of your English language skills. You can provide us with proof of this as follows:
TOEFL (min. 80 points) or
IELTS (min. Level 6) or
Duolingo English test (min. 95 points) or
Cambridge Certificate (min. overall grade B)
Note: The proof must be submitted before the start of the study programme and must not be older than five years. If you have already completed your first degree in English or are a native English speaker, you no longer need to prove your English language skills separately.
